White water

Away from the sea and harbour there are the delights and thrills of moving water; paddling on the rapids and white water of our rivers.  Within the club are members and coaches who enjoy tackling the challenges of this environment in kayak and canoe, or even on a Stand Up Paddleboard (SUP).

You can learn and practice skills necessary to enjoy moving water on local weirs and features on the River Stour.   Then it is only a short drive to the rivers of the South West such as the Dart, Exe and Barle which can provide excitement for everybody from the novice white water paddler to the experienced paddler.  While, if the tides are running strongly in the Harbour there is the opportunity to practice your moving skills at Rockley Bridge – a narrow gap through which the tidal waters flow and can provide fun on some Wednesday evenings.

The Club runs training sessions for beginners, including the British Canoeing White Water Award which aims at giving the participant the skills necessary to paddle safely as part of a group.During the winter season there is also the opportunity to join trips for kayak and canoe to the rivers of Devon or further afield.
